Ouarzazate to Merzouga
The journey from Ouarzazate to the Erg Chebbi dunes in Merzouga is one of the most spectacular road trips in Morocco. Spanning approximately 360km, this route takes you through the heart of the "Road of a Thousand Kasbahs."

By Private 4x4
The most recommended way to travel. Hiring a private driver allows you to stop at the Todra Gorge and the Dades Valley at your own pace. The drive typically takes 6-7 hours.
- Best for travelers who want one driver from airport to desert.
- Useful if you plan to stop at kasbahs or viewpoints on the way.
- More comfortable than trying to piece together multiple transport legs.
By Public Bus
For solo travelers on a budget, Supratours and CTM operate daily buses. The journey takes around 9-10 hours. Note that the bus often stops in Rissani or Erfoud.
- More economical, but less flexible for photo stops.
- Good for travelers with a lighter schedule and no rush.
- Check the departure time carefully, especially if you arrive late.
Route Highlights
Skoura: The Skoura Oasis: Famous for its 17th-century Amridil Kasbah.
Roses: El Kelaa M'Gouna: The "Valley of Roses," aromatic in late spring.
Tinghir: Tinghir: Home to the stunning Todra Gorges.
The route is long enough to benefit from a full-day departure. If you can, start in daylight so you can stop safely at viewpoints and still reach Merzouga before dark.
